Something Cool For Pet Lovers!!

You will notice to the side I have put up a new little banner that links to The Animal Rescue Site. As I looked through this site, I noticed not only do they have cool gifts that I could give for the holiday.....in the description it also tells how many bowls of food will be given to an animal shelter when you purchase the item.....how COOL is THAT??? I also noticed that the site is a partner with PetFinder.com ---this site has a BIG place in my heart....you see that is where we located both of our four legged babies. To the left is a picture of Daisy our awesome Beagle. It took years to get my hubby to let us have a dog. One day he and Sam both decided a beagel might be ok and off I went to PetFinder to locate a beagle. Daisy was found at the Fort Riley Animal Shelter...she was originally a militay dog who kept going AWOL. (Hates the sound of gunfire). My husband brought her home and after some chewing and a whole lot of walking on a leash....she is the best dog ever...pretty independent. And then....for some reason we thought Daisy was lonely and that she needed someone to pal around with all day while we were at work. My husband was certain he wanted a dog that "did something" such as hunt. We looked for a weimeriner...but no such luck....and I could not convince him on a Golden Retreiver ( Which BTW, will be our next dog). So once again, I was on PetFinder. There was Annie...at our local shelter and she had been there a while. I went and looked at her. She had been dumped in an adjacent county and a farmer brought her in. She weighed 36 pounds and was skinny as all get out...not to mention it looked like she had just had a liter of pups. A day later we paid for her- she went to the vet to be fixed- and then came home with us. Home has not been the same since! Talk about energy...we had no grass after the first winter from her running constantly. The pound said she was 4 years old but there was NO WAY! She was a bit much and 3 weeks after we had her (it seemed like months) hubby (without my knowledge) put an ad in the paper to giver her away. It was amazing...the people who called had seen her at the pound and no one wanted her...and if they did I told them NO! A month later we had a garage sale and a couple of hunters came buy and asked if the dog was for sale. Hubby then thought twice about keeping her....and she is still here. Biggest dang (67 pounds to be exact), clingy dog who loves to chase squirrels, rabbits, birds, coyotes, deer and cows you have ever seen....maybe she will calm down someday????? But boy when you need LOVE she is there for ya...no slobbery kisses just snuggling...and what a heating blanket for these cold Kansas winters. So if you are considering a pet this year....I encourage an adult dog that has no one to love. I wouldn't trade mine in for anything....and they came house trained!
